UHURU DAY INITIATIVES 2025

A greener, more sustainable Dodoma

1. Executive Summary:

The Uhuru Day Initiative 2025 is a dual-impact campaign designed to address critical environmental challenges and bolster healthcare services in the Dodoma region of Tanzania. Coinciding with Tanzania’s independence celebrations and the onset of the wet season, this initiative will promote blood donation while driving large-scale tree planting to combat desertification, reduce soil erosion, and enhance community well-being.

2. Background and Purpose:

The Dodoma region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with irregular, low rainfall (500– 800 mm per year) and a short-wet season from December to March. These conditions have resulted in: Water scarcity, Land degradation and food shortages, High temperatures, Socio-economic struggles.

In response, TRIPRECY Initiative Foundation (TIF) launched previous Uhuru Day Initiative campaigns in collaboration with the Dodoma Regional Commissioner’s Office, and National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS), collected 276 units of blood and planted thousands of trees. For 2025, the initiative targets: Collecting over 2,000 units of blood to save more lives in Tanzania and planting a mass of trees as a means to sequester carbon, enhance biodiversity, and support local farmers in restoring degraded lands. The campaign will take place from December 1st to 10th, aligning with Tanzania’s independence celebrations and the region’s wet season
